Prince Hitachi is installed as honorary patron of the Japan Art Association, succeeding Prince Takamatsu.

Informal consent is given for the establishment of an international system to honor artists all over the world, according to the last wishes of Prince Takamatsu.

The Board of Trustees decides to set up the Praemium Imperiale in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Japan Art Association.
