2001 Grant for Young Artists

The recipient of the 2001 Grant for Young Artists is
Résidence du Festival

The Résidence du Festival will receive 5 million yen (c.$40,000) to assist their efforts to help young filmmakers. The grant will help towards ensuring the international distribution of the first two feature films to have been made by filmmakers who stayed at the Résidence in 2000 and 2001.

The Résidence was inaugurated in 2000 by the Cannes Film Festival Cinéfondation to offer young filmmakers from around the world accommodation in Paris and a program of seminars and professional contacts to help them realize a feature film project. In 2000 and 2001, the young filmmakers came from Argentina, Finland,Hungary, Japan, Kazsakhstan, Korea, Nigera, Poland, Spain, Tadjikistan, the UK and the USA. They devote their time at the Résidence to writing a script for their own film project. They receive advice from established directors and scriptwriters to further their work, and meet people in the industry in order to advance their project.

The Japan Art Association offers an annual grant of 5 million yen to a group or institution that encourages the involvement of young people in the arts. The Grant for Young Artists was inaugurated to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Praemium Imperiale.
